Reusing content is important, but there is another way you can increase efficiency and ensure accuracy with reuse: by “recycling” your project settings. Create them once, then import them into other projects. Done!
Project settings include:
- Keywords
- Groups
- Attributes
- Windows
- Styles
- Scripts
- Style Sheets
- Help Targets
- Project Properties
You can use the same settings in multiple projects using the Project Settings Wizard.
Importing project settings
- Choose the File tab > Tools > Import Project Settings. The Project Settings Import Wizard will open.
- Choose to import an existing Doc-To-Help project.
- Browse to the Doc-To-Help project location.
- Select the project settings you’d like to import. By default, all are selected.
- Click the Import button.
If you are creating a brand-new project using the New Project Wizard, the second screen will let you choose the project to import settings from — choose the project, click Next.
OK, so this technically isn’t “recycling” — but you are creating something once and using it over and over again. And that’s efficient.

Thanks, Nicky, this is good info. I learned about it recently, am sure that lots of people seeing this for the first time will benefit.
